Bastion Point

May 26th, 2008 by admin

It seemed somehow necessary to note today’s important remembrance. It was of course Bastion Point ‘day’. Thirty years! Thirty years!

It was great to watch Maori TV last night (the only media apart from some news items in mainstream today) and the unravellings of the stories. Merata Mita’s great documentary, and people telling their stories made for intriguing and compulsive viewing. They certainly do it ‘good’ on Maori TV!

It’s interesting to ask ourselves how much have we all changed? Is there a difference? Most would say ‘yes’ it’s better but there are still disturbing stories of alienation, violence and its partner poverty.

Still a wee way to go?

Perhaps that’s another story.

DEANZ Conference

May 25th, 2008 by admin

Is on August this year. The theme is : My place, my space, my learning.

Visit the conference site or the websites of guest speakers Nancy White and Michael K Barbour.

Michael K Barbour: Ning site (see our Ning site too!). Actually, just visit this site to see his range of social networking/participatory sites.

While there seem to be several conferences this year….there’s also a sense that these might be the last ones we actually fly to…….or go to in person. Perhaps the increase in consciousness and fuel prices make online conferences (and yes SL conferences) even more attractive.

The new site, powered by Ning and called Digital Life Stories takes you to a collection of stories by Kiwis. We hope that this is the start of more sharing and collaboration.

The Center for Digital Storytelling site is worth a revisit with the new videos for International Storytelling Day.
